Johan Severin Svendsen was born on September 30th in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway. He died in Copenhagen, Denmark, on June 14th, 1911. He composed chamber music, symphonies, a violin concerto, and a number of Norwegian rhapsodies for orchestra, in addition to this Romance (which is his most famous work).
