Volume 2 of the Wiener Urtext complete edition of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas in 3 volumes contains the sonatas Op. 26-57. This new edition takes account of all surviving sources that originated during the composer's lifetime: autographs, engraver's proofs, and first editions. These are supplemented with vital information taken from early reprints, combining careful editorial practice with the requirements of contemporary conventions. As well as new research regarding articulation, phrasing and dynamics, the edition provides solutions for doubtful readings in the actual musical text (for example in the 'Appassionata'). The layout is remarkable for its clarity, legibility and practical page turns. Fingerings have been supplied by noted pianists and teachers.
