Composed in 1907 this volume of Images, comprised of three contrasting pieces, demonstrates conciseness, deep dramatic content and colorful tonal imagery. Debussy established Impressionism as a pianistic style and used evocative terms to shed light on the mood or character of each piece. Maurice Hinson translates the French titles into English and offers practice suggestions to assist the performer. Also included is an outstanding CD recording from the Naxos label.

When Günter Henle founded his Urtext publishing company in 1948 he began his catalogue with a two-volume edition (HN 1 and HN 2) of Mozart’s 18 piano sonatas. These sonatas remain part of the core repertory of every pianist. In the intervening decades both volumes have been revised several times in order to keep pace with the current state of research.
